Get A Cloo(ney)
By KeMari | June 28, 2007
Let’s face it: celebrities are a part of our everyday lives. Try as we might, we can not and will not escape them.
I am very choosy about which celebrities I adorn with my respect and admiration. One of those elite celebrities who does invite my reverence is Mr. George Clooney. It’s not just his physical allure that holds my attention, though he is a tasty morsel. What grabs me most about George is his integrity, his generosity, and his committment to raising awareness for many of the causes he supports.
He is a staple in the ongoing humanitarian effort for Darfur. Yesterday, Yahoo! News reported that Clooney and many of his Ocean’s Thirteen co-stars had raised $9.3 million for Darfur. He is committed to raising funds and awareness for Darfur. That’s something I can respect immensely.
George Clooney’s appeal is not limited to just myself, however. His fans, admirers and many of his peers realize George’s incredible spirit and worth. He is revered far and wide. So much so that he has been asked numerous times to run for president of the U.S. in 2008.
There’s even an online petition showing support for the “Clooney 2008″ presidential election. Which of course, has not yet been announced, but not for lack of suggestions. The George Clooney for President 2008 petition has just under 340 signatures, but it continues to grow, with much thanks to Clooney’s constant good deeds. There are numerous sites and blogs supporting Clooney’s possible run to be our next president. A ‘President Clooney’ might just be what we need to strengthen this country again. Watch out Hilary!
I know he’d get my vote.
Discussion Q’s: What do you think of Clooney’s political involvement in such matters as Darfur? Do you admire him and other celebrities who get involved? Or do you believe celebrities should stick to what they are paid for?

I think he is one of the most admirable celebrities out there. He fights for the causes he beleives in and uses his celebrity in a good way. In my eyes, he’s a respectable man. I love that he doesn’t flaunt his status, rather uses it every way he can to help. So I guess all that rambling also answers the discussion question.
I agree. He is one of my favorite men, not just actors or celebrities, but men in general. If my son can grow up to be like anyone, I surely hope that it is like George Clooney.
I think he is sexy not only physically but because of his passion to make this world a better place as well.
I would vote for him for president. I am confident in the fact that he would do great things for this country and abroad.
I also want to hump him and sit on his face all the live long day.
Well, I would agree on all counts. He is so delicious and his generosity and his empathy for others is just another part of that.
I had something insightful to say abuot George and his wonderful philanthropic ways….but I lost is after the last sentance by WickedGame…now I am laughing so hard I can barely type…..
what?
it is true dammit!!!
*grin*
She and he both seem to have that affect on people
Wicked has definately earned her name! LOL!
I think that actors and actresses, more than many people, have the resources and clout to make an actual difference. I can try and try and try, but they can make my tries look pathetic if they choose to, which I believe that they should.
AND, while Wicked’s comment is rather “wicked”, I TOTALLY agree!!!
XXOXX,
Goddess Reborn
That’s exactly what I’m speaking of. They have the power and money and I really think they could help to steer the world in the right direction. I don’t want to favor them but, they are favored, and therefore, I think they should set the best examples.
And yes, Wicked made some excellent points. I agree also
just a test
i think he has a huge following, and not just because he is a magazines hot man of the year - i think people like him… his humor and the things he has done outside of acting.
The only problem is - remember what happened when the female group from texas said they hated the fact the pres is from there too… everyone said - singers should sing and not toss their 2 cents into politics… are people going to say that if an actor does something that doesnt jive with everyone else’s opinion?
sigh!
You’re right Nicole, he does have a huge following and it’s not all about drooling over his hotness. He is a genuine person doing genuine things, he goes beyond being an actor, he’s a humanitarian.
As for what they say about celebrities and politics…. let me throw some names out there:
Arnold Schwartzenegger
Sonny Bono
Ronald Reagan
Just to name a few
If they can do it, surely someone as amazing as Clooney can do it.
